Steve Maudsley

Steve has been in the fire alarm/electrical industry longer than I have been alive (40+ years), and holds an invaluable amount of experience and wisdom. He has mentored the most successful sales and management positions in this industry, most that are still currently employed and maintain a high level of excellence. It has been my absolute pleasure to be mentored by him, learning the ins-and-outs of this industry and every industry attached. No one could ask for a better mentor, and father figure than Steve Maudsley.

Steve has the largest heart I have ever witnessed; family, friends, and coworkers always come first. He has had every opportunity to hang-it-up, but his dedication to the industry and teaching the next generation has kept him in the mix. If anyone ever has the opportunity to learn from him, and befriend him, they couldn't be luckier.

It is my absolute honor to nominate Steve Maudsley for the Honorary Life Member Award.

Charle Dumba

Anyone that has had the pleasure of working with, or for, Charle will agree he's a great leader. Charle has worked in the electrical industry between Alberta and Saskatchewan for over 25 years. He took me under his wing about 20 years ago and helped mould me into the person I am today. Not just as a member of this incredible industry, but as a human being.

- Robert Dancey
Guillevin
I could write out about a ten paragraph essay here — but I think the biggest reasons for why I nominated Charle are: he’s an incredible mentor, with great ethics and is just an all-around unbelievable person. I wouldn’t be where I am without him.

- Cody Beausoleil

Mike just celebrated his 30th anniversary in the industry — and all of his 30 years have been with WOW Lighting and Controls. Mike has exhibited tremendous leadership and innovation in the lighting agency business.

- Dan Parker
Richard McDonald & Associates
We're nominating Mike Begert aka MB for many reasons. He came into the industry 30 years ago as an eager young man with the world before him. He's intelligent and passionate with a continued desire to learn and teach those around him. This attitude is what eventually propelled him to become the President of WOW Lighting and Controls. Mike has the utmost respect from within our industry because of his approachable, engaging, good-hearted, open, caring personality. Never closing the door or phone on a customer or staff if they need to communicate, he has a unique way of problem solving and, even though he's the president, he works just as hard as his staff and is not afraid to go the extra mile for his customers. WOW, is what it is today because of his forward-thinking and vision toward the future of the company. With his support and leadership, Mike Begert has created his legacy making WOW Lighting one of the largest lighting houses in Alberta while maintaining his “family first” motto. Often sitting in the background watching with pride at what he helped create, Mike is humble and doesn't forget how he got here often sharing  stories of his journey. We feel that Mike is a pillar of knowledge, support and encouragement to all who have had the privilege of dealing with him. There are very few in this industry that don't know who Mike is and that's because of the impact he leaves on all the people he deals with from the janitor to the CEO—always making time no matter who you are. His positive impact will be felt within the industry for years to come. So the big question — why should he receive this award? Because he deserves it.

Honorary Life Member

Bruce Mackay
Alberta Electrical Alliance

I thank the Alberta Electrical Alliance for recognizing my part in the Electrical Industry. My association with the Alliance over the years, as President, was an absolute pleasure and I encourage others in the industry to consider participating.

I actually began my career in the Electrical Industry way back in 1976, at ITE Industries, a switchgear manufacturer. From there I moved to Canada Wire and Cable. I joined Ilsco Canada as an outside sales rep in 1987. My territory was South-West Ontario. I became the National Sales Manager in 1993. In 2000 I moved to Calgary to focus on developing sales in Western Canada. I retired in May 2020.

I’ve had the good fortune of visiting every part of Canada except Nunavut and Labrador. Everywhere I went I met great people who were proud of where they lived and happy to show me some of the things they loved about their home provinces and territories.

I’m very grateful for the many friendships that have come my way. That, to me, has been the greatest benefit to my role in sales and with the Alberta Electrical Alliance.

I miss the day-to-day interaction with my friends in the Electrical Industry and wish everyone success and happiness in the years to come.

I appreciate being honoured by the Alberta Electrical Alliance for a 50 Year Service award. The AEA has been very supportive of our industry through Learning Expos, social activities and awarding student bursaries. The electrical industry has provided my family and me many opportunities. My son, Paul, was a grateful recipient of one of the initial membership student bursaries and now is a practicing family physician in Calgary. I am fortunate to have evolved my career through many areas of our industry including electrical apprenticeship, wholesale distribution, distribution equipment manufacturing and energy sustainability. The Industry has introduced me to many mentors, colleagues and friends. Thank you to the AEA as it continues to support our industry while it evolves through this current pandemic. It has come a long ways since the early years of the Calgary Electric Club.
Be respectful, take care and stay safe.

Emerging Leader

Thomas Supinski
Leviton

I’m extremely humbled and honoured as the recipient of the AEA’s 2020 Emerging Leader Industry Award. As I reflect back to 2003 when I first entered the electrical industry, I'd never have imagined receiving such a respected accolade. This award signifies a significant step in my professional journey and the acknowledgement of my peers only strengthens my desire to build upon the foundation provided by groups like the AEA. Over my career, I've witnessed many technological advancements and evolving trends but our core strength remains within the network of people in our industry.

I'd like to personally thank the AEA for their continued leadership in the Alberta Electrical Industry, whether it be a social event, tradeshow, or the latest industry training; their contributions of giving back to the community are very much appreciated and inspiring. Our industry thrives because of your commitment to the growth and development of its members and their families. You've created a community of support of which my eldest daughter Aimee was a successful recipient in 2018; supporting her in her own dreams and aspirations. The AEA has had a positive impact for me both personally and professionally and for that I'm extremely grateful.

I've been fortunate to work with fantastic mentors and peers in a great organization that has supported and encouraged my growth within the electrical industry. As a leader, I'll leverage what I've learned and the experience I've gained to further develop and enhance the overall strength of the electrical industry in Alberta.

I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the unimaginable struggle thrust upon us by Covid-19 and its impact on our industry and the world. As we work through the impacts, both personally and professionally, I firmly believe that out of adversity comes the opportunity to better ourselves and create a stronger more resilient industry for us all.

I’m very fortunate to enjoy what I do for a living.

I’ve also met a lot of great people in the game of hockey from this industry, I’ve coached some of my peers’ children and coached against some of my peers in minor hockey as well. This industry has brought a great pleasure to my family and I, and in the past decade I have met so many great people, some of which are my closets friends to this day. I take pride in keeping athletes in the community interested in the best game in the world!

- Mark Kulynych, Senior Project Specialist
