    Solar Lighting in Northern Climates

    Dominic Bugeaud,
B.A. Environmental Studies, Project Manager, IES Specialist - Solar Vision

Solar lighting has come a very long way over the past 20 years, with new and improved technologies being developed, tested and manufactured every year. From the most generic off-the-shelves systems to the high-tech commercial and industrial solar lighting systems, all suffer from the same concerns when used in Northern climates: low efficient sun hours (or lack thereof), cold (to frigid) temperatures, ice, snow, hail, long shadows from nearby structures, and I could as well be missing a few.

    THIS PRESENTATION WILL COVER:
    1. How these major concerns come to impact the performance of solar lighting systems
    2. Present some (but not all!) basic existing technologies that have come about to counteract these concerns
    3. Also be targeted the major criteriums and parameters that must be assessed for a successful solar lighting project
    4. What are the key factors that will optimize potential energy gains throughout the year?
    5. What data must be gathered and assessed to identify a project’s potential.
    6. The best solar lighting solution(s) available?
    7. be covering these aspects of solar lighting by going over relevant examples and exerts from available literature.
Looking forward to meeting you all!

    1:30pm - 2:30pm

A Practical Demonstration of the Electrical Industries Access to Decarbonization and Hydrogen Revenue in 2023

    Gareth Gregory
North American Head - Strategic Energy, Client Delivery and 59 Hydrogen
ESSNA Energy Security Services North America Inc.

    THIS PRESENTATION WILL COVER:

To benefit from the hydrogen economy you will need to change your view on the opportunity from a stand-alone technology and consider hydrogen as a component of the broader energy mix that you are already supporting today.

Many industries exist on the tail end of the energy transition opportunity with limited to zero access. In contrast the electrical industry is well positioned to not only participate but to control many of the decarbonization decisions that are made by their client base. In some cases doubling the revenue on conventional projects.

Gareth’s will share the fundamental steps to generating revenue as an electrical contractor through the energy transition. Practically demonstrating the hydrogen revenue generation opportunity for the electrical contractor in 2023/ 2024.

The content of Gareth's presentation will include Alberta case studies, current opportunities demonstrating the control and the electrical industry has on the decarbonization opportunities and 5 steps to be followed as an electrical contractor, guaranteeing increased revenue, profitability and in some cases annuity revenue.

    3:00 pm - 4:00 pm

The marriage between power distribution equipment and EV Charging stations: a smart, compact and economic solution for EV charging infrastructure

    Aditya Ramesh
Product Line Manager,  LV Assemblies EV Infrastructure, Eaton Canada

Eaton is a worldwide power management company, with decades of experience, leading the electrical industry. The global energy transition is driven by the progressive replacement of carbon-based fuels with renewables, and the direct and indirect electrification of more applications — including transportation. With this comes wide-ranging demands on a building’s electrical infrastructure to handle the incremental energy load of the chargers.  To accommodate this growth, many provinces are challenging building owners to develop "EV-ready" power distribution systems that have capacity, dedicated branch circuits and other equipment to distribute power to EV parking spots to support future installation.  There is an enormous opportunity to manage power far more effectively, taking advantage of a new power paradigm that is decentralized, electrified and decarbonized. If completed with safety and reliability in mind, the critical task of adding EVCI can be accomplished without unnecessary costs or complications down the road. EV Charging Infrastructure design, market trends, codes and standards will continue to evolve, so energy infrastructure can work in new ways to ensure the power is always on and optimized for efficiency and safety.

    THIS PRESENTATION WILL COVER:
    •  How can we think differently and challenge the traditional way of EV Charging solution?
    • Understand how power distribution equipment is important and critical when it comes to EV Charging Infrastructure
    • Combining Power Distribution, EV Chargers and Digital Solutions – to provide compact, scalable and smart EV Charging solutions
    • Adoption of EVs will ultimately depend on infrastructure that can manage available power efficiently and scale for the future
